Call for collaborative Sweden-ILL PhD projects
As part of the Scientific Member agreement between Sweden and the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL) for the period 2024 – 2029, 4 four-year PhD projects are available to be filled as soon as possible.
These projects are intended to strengthen the Swedish neutron scattering community in all regions and across a range of scientific areas and experimental techniques. The PhD-students will be affiliated to the SwedNess research school in neutron scattering and follow parts of that curriculum. The projects should provide researchers based in Sweden with continuous, high-level support in the preparation and realisation of neutron scattering experiments, principally at the ILL. All projects must involve an ILL scientist and a scientist from a Swedish organisation.
Application timeline:
- Deadline for applications: 14 June 2024 (midnight CET)
- Selection of projects: 12 July 2024
Application process:
- All applications (in English) must be sent by email to sweden2024@ill.fr by midnight (CET) 14 June 2024.
- The application must be based on the completed application form Word, 501 kB. (attached), which includes a description of the project and the applicant’s brief CV.
- In case a candidate for the position is already identified by the applicant, a letter of motivation and a CV of the candidate must be provided as part of the application.
- The applications will be evaluated in terms of excellence by a panel representing Sweden and ILL.
- The selection of projects may take longer than announced above if there are many applications.
Successful projects:
- The PhD student will spend the first 3 years at ILL with an ILL PhD contract. The fourth year will be spent in Sweden for which 47 k€ will be transferred from ILL to the host organisation. Any additional funding needed for the fourth year must be contributed by the host organisation and explicitly guaranteed in the application.
- The candidate for the position at ILL must be approved by both partners – Sweden and ILL.
- The applicant must sign an agreement with the ILL defining the responsibilities of each party and any sharing of costs and resources.
