ILL secures funding for operations until 2033

SwedNess is delighted to share the news that the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) has secured funding for operations until 2033. ILL which was founded in 1967 and is by many considered to be the Mecca of neutron scattering. Over the years the ILL has enabled countless groundbreaking experiments with contributions to the fields of biology, chemistry and physics as well as pioneered the developed of instrumentation for neutron scattering, such as the iconic Orange cryostat (link to https://www.ill.eu/for-ill-users/support-labs-infrastructure/sample-environment/services-for-advanced-neutron-environments/history/cryogenics/orange-cryostats).

In 2005 Sweden became an ILL Scientific Membership country and the ILL is and will most likely remain one of the most important neutron facilities for Swedish researchers. During the past two decades the use of the ILL by the Swedish research community has grown and the Swedish user group is currently one of the largest (5th largest in 2024 with 134 user visits). The continued operations of the ILL not only strengthens the Swedish and European research communities, but also the competitiveness of our industries.
